Your Flute Playing Journey Begins Here
Welcome to My Flute Studio! I'm so excited you're here!
I love working with flute players of all ages and helping them achieve their flute goals. Teaching flute is a long realised dream where I am passionate about helping my students learn at their own pace, in a safe and fun environment.
What I offer
My flute studio is about educating the next generation of flute players in a safe and welcoming space. I offer lessons from beginner to advanced, both adults and school aged students, and tuition on flute, piccolo and alto flute. I can also guide and assist with theory and musicianship, which are offered as group lessons, and help prepare for university auditions to music programs.
Teaching flute is my privilege and my passion. I believe in open communication between students and their carers (if applicable). My goal is to give you or your child the most comprehensive flute education possible. All lessons are created to suit the individual goals, desires and passions of each student.
Lessons range from 30 mins to 1 hour, depending on your needs. Group lessons may also be an option in some circumstances. Flute ensembles (duets, trios, quartets, quintets, and flute choir) will be offered as an option for students wanting to work on their ensemble skills.
Beginner flute lessons
Receiving your first flute is an exciting experience! My approach to teaching beginner flutists focuses on sound before symbol- getting a good and consistent sound on your instrument before using music.
I encourage beginners, (before purchasing your first flute) to have a free trial lesson to play a flute mouth piece, decide which student flute might suit you best, and practice on a Pneumo Pro wind director.
Intermediate & Advanced flute lessons
My intermediate and advanced lessons go into the progressive techniques of flute music from a variety of eras and styles. Intermediate and Advanced lessons are for those who have already been learning flute and want to extend their techniques. This includes but is not limited to vibrato, harmonics, advanced articulation patterns, multi-phonics and vocalisation while playing.
Exam preparation
Hoping to complete an AMEB examination? I can help! I offer tuition for both Comprehensive and Repertoire exams.
In the Capricornia region, face to face AMEB examinations are offered in May (depending on nominations) or August/September. These can be either comprehensive or repertoire. Lessons for these includes assistance in selecting music, relevant techniques, music craft, general knowledge, aural work, scales and relevant theory exams.
The studio can also be used to film Video Repertoire Examinations (VRE) and I can assist in the preparation and submission of these.
Ensemble and Group Lessons
Group lessons are offered for Theory and Musicianship. This allows students to learn with others, bounce ideas and understanding off other students doing the same preparation and learn in a small classroom environment.
Ensemble lessons are offered as needed or for students seeking assistance with learning ensemble music including duets, trios, or quartets. The focus in these lessons will be on musicianship, learning with a peer and working on ensemble skills with a student of an identical level of playing. These lessons are also suitable for adults who want to keep playing but may not necessarily want solo lessons.
A flute choir may be an option for anyone in high school or above. This will have to be rehearsed at another location as my studio can not accommodate large ensembles.
